Just for Kids!
The Southern Maine Dressage Association (SMDA) is starting a “Just for Kids” group! The group would be open to all kids from the very young up to age 21. We are hoping that this group could organize the food booth at the shows and raise money to go towards clinicians or having their own fun shows or whatever they want to set their sights on! With the understanding that there are many farms supporting dressage for kids within their own lesson structure, there are many out there that do not have the young rider population.
One of our goals for this youth group is to get them together in a non-competitive atmosphere and have the kids be able to share their love of horses and ponies with each other. Activities could include watching dressage videos, having a book discussion, learning to braid, basic first aid, how to clean a stall, prepare for a show - the sky is the limit!! They could also have farriers or vets or farm supply representatives as guests.
Kim Mathieu has volunteered to help get the SMDA youth program off the ground. We have a lot of youth participants at our shows, and we are hoping to build on this to establish a fun network of kids of all ages who love horses and love dressage!
Please share this with the youth and parents at your farm. If you are interested please contact Kim Mathieu for more details. Kim can be reached by telephone at 839-8587 or Click Here to contact her by email.
